Make a plan around the condition
Check for a leak, condensation, a dirty or poorly fitted filter, pest entry, or a specific discharge of debris. EPA recommends source control and ventilation, with compatible filtration as a supplement. Duct cleaning has not been shown to prevent health problems.
If substantial visible mold is documented inside hard-surface ducts or HVAC components, cleaning may be considered. Correct moisture first; wet or moldy insulated ducts may need replacement. An antimicrobial is not a substitute for source correction and must be specifically labeled for HVAC use.
